As the second decade of the twentieth century had begun, Savanna was well established as a community, a far cry from the woodcutters post of 1828 and its “pre-history” as the “Council Bluffs” of the Upper Mississippi when the native American used the site. Their council lodge served as first shelter of the white man. In 1910-11 brick and frame mansions of the well-to-do filled that space.

IL Rt. 84 Bridge in Savanna, IL Re-opens

The bridge opened Wed., August 18, 2010. Repairs were needed after the foundation was washed out during the flood of July 22-23, 2010. Torrential rains washed away not only the bridge's footings, but residents' homes. Some people lost everything. Many sustained a good deal of damage, not only in Savanna, but the region from Pearl City to Lanark, and Savanna.
